Staff benefits

Charter Trust Schools Educational Trust, a close-knit family of educational institutions in South East London, embraces diversity and inclusion at its core. At Charter Trust Schools, we value individuals for who they are, irrespective of their backgrounds or educational paths into teaching. Our commitment extends not only to our pupils and students but also to our staff members.

Just as we believe in a diverse and inclusive educational environment, we recognise the importance of providing our staff with a supportive workplace that nurtures their growth and well-being.

Here are some of the benefits you can expect when you join our Charter Trust Schools team:

We offer competitive salaries for both teaching and non-teaching staff based on the type and level of role you do. We are an accredited Living Wage Foundation employer .

The Charter Trust is committed to offering national terms and conditions in line with the School Teacher’s Pay and Conditions document (“STPCD”), the Burgundy Book (for Teachers) or the NJC Green Book (for Support Staff). This ensures we are treating people fairly across the Trust as well as remaining competitive. Your starting salary will be determined by the pay range for your role, your experience as well as external market conditions.

All contracted members of staff will be automatically enrolled into a career-average pension scheme with either the Teachers Pension Scheme or the Local Government Pension Scheme (whichever is appropriate). You don’t pay tax or National Insurance on your contributions and Charter Trust adds a generous employer contribution, which varies depending on your salary. All staff are entitled to opt-out of the pension scheme should they wish to do so.

We recognise the importance of a good work-life balance and provide generous holiday entitlements. This entitlement is in addition to any Bank or Public holidays. If you work part-time, your holiday entitlement will be pro-rated. Teaching staff receive the standard school holiday allowance including a two week autumn half term.

We understand that our employment policies need to be flexible and responsive in order to promote diversity and equality, and to attract and retain the highest quality workforce. We offer flexible working opportunities; job share arrangements and part-time roles; generous family leave packages; and leave to support you with emergencies or for compassionate reasons.

Our Employee Assistance Programme offers free and confidential advice available 24hrs, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. You will also have access to structured counselling of up to eight sessions available either face-to-face or over the phone.

Our Cycle to Work scheme enables employees to purchase brand-new bicycles and cycling equipment via salary sacrifice, making tax and National Insurance savings.

Our Season Ticket Loan enables employees to purchase annual transport tickets via salary sacrifice, making tax and National Insurance savings.

Our Charter Institute leads regional training for teachers and leaders and this capacity supports us to give you meaningful professional development and talent opportunities within a deep knowledge of your context and need.

Our teaching and support staff vacancies will also be advertised on the DfE Teaching Vacancies website.

The Charter Schools Educational Trust is committed to equality and diversity, and to being a family where everyone can be themselves. We are committed to continuous improvement in how representative we are of our local communities, including gender, ethnicity, religion, age, and all other aspects of diversity.

We offer family friendly, flexible working arrangements, and staff networks to provide a supportive environment in the workplace where members can receive peer to peer support.
