Our Approach to learning

Inspired, inclusive and rooted in real-world experiences.

How we teach

At Streatham Wells, we believe that teaching should develop both academic excellence and personal confidence. Our approach to learning encourages pupils to become independent thinkers who understand the world around them and their place within it.

We provide stimulating learning experiences that support every child to grow in knowledge, skills and character. Through evidence-based teaching approaches drawn from the work of organisations such as the Education Endowment Foundation and the London South Research School, we ensure high-quality teaching and purposeful learning across the curriculum.

Our learning culture is built on high expectations, reflective thinking and meaningful enquiry. We aim to help every pupil develop a lifelong love of learning by providing access to a rich and diverse curriculum that is firmly rooted in our local community. This enables pupils to make connections between their learning and the world around them — locally, nationally and globally

Our learning principles

Evidence-informed teaching

We use research-led teaching methods and professional development to support consistent, effective practice across the school.

Curiosity and enquiry

Pupils are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, explore ideas and make sense of their learning through discussion, investigation and reflection.

Skills for life

Learning focuses not only on knowledge but also on the skills and dispositions needed for success beyond school — such as resilience, creativity, communication and collaboration.
